Red-hot Silver scorches Beaver County

Lady Lakers’ sophomore scores 17 points on just eight shots

Aleeya Silver scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting as Garrett College routed host Community College of Beaver County, 94-45, Sunday afternoon for the Lady Lakers’ first win of the women’s basketball season.

Silver (seven assists, two steals) was one of six Garrett College players in double figures. Manuela Perez de Castro scored 16, Renee Timbers and reserve Gianna Michaux contributed 15 each, Janiya Burton (game-high eight assists) chipped in 14, and Gabriella Valentinetti (seven assists) tallied 11 for the Lady Lakers (1-2).

GC’s Bayleigh Lamberson added six points, four rebounds, and two steals off the bench.

Macyla Collins (game-high 19 points, 11 rebounds) and Emily Sedgwick (11 points, game-high 16 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for the winless Titans (0-4).

While Silver led the way, the sophomore guard/forward wasn’t the only hot-shooting Laker. GC shot almost 53 percent from the field, including better than 41 percent from the 3-point line, while the Titans shot a frosty 15-for-64 (23 percent) from the field.

Garrett finished with 35 assists on 40 made baskets. The Lady Lakers rolled to a 22-12 lead after the opening quarter and had a 45-21 cushion by halftime.

GC plays next Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Community College of Allegheny County.
