Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College's president, has been elected to a third term on the Maryland Association of Community College's Executive Committee.

Midcap is serving as the small college representative on MACC's Executive Committee. The committee also includes representatives from large- and mid-sized community colleges, a fourth at-large member, and the past chair of the Maryland Association of Community College Presidents.

"MACC does an outstanding job representing Maryland's hundreds of thousands of community college students," said Midcap. "I'm honored to serve on MACC's Executive Committee and do all that I can to support community college students across the state."

Midcap has served as Garrett College's president since 2017. Previously, he spent 22 years at Chesapeake College, including 13 as vice president of student affairs. In that role, he served two terms as chair of the Maryland Community Colleges Chief Student Affairs Officers.

During Midcap's tenure, Garrett College has been among the statewide leaders in student success indicators. GC has led the state's 16 community colleges in one or more indicators in each of the last three years, including finishing this year tops in graduation/transfer rate.

"Facilitating student success is our main mission," said Midcap. "Our impressive outcomes are a testament to our faculty, staff, and students."

Midcap earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Salisbury University, a Master of Education degree in History from Washington College, and a doctorate in innovation and leadership from Wilmington University. He is also a graduate of Maryland Eastern Shore Leadership, and earned a certification in sport management from Concordia University St. Paul.

Midcap and his wife, Donna, live in McHenry with their 17-year-old poodle, Serena. They have two grown daughters.
