Lakers rout Pennsylvania Highlands
Vargo, Boyd, and Jackson combine for 70 points in win
Alex Vargo, Justyn Boyd, and Gavin Jackson each scored at least 20 points, combining for 70 points Saturday as the Garrett College men's basketball team overwhelmed host Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, 112-73.
Vargo (four rebounds, three assists, three steals) scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field as the Lakers (8-7) won their third straight game. Boyd (six rebounds) was even hotter, making 8-of-10 shots while scoring 24 points.
Jackson scored 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field, helping GC to its fourth win in the last six games.
K'Shawn Scott contributed a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Kydale Staten (eight rebounds) added 10 points as five Lakers reached double digits. Nate Washington just missed double figures, finished with eight points for GC, which raced out to a 57-29 halftime lead.
Garrett shot just over 53 percent from the field as a team compared to just over 40 percent by the Black Bears.
Joziah Wyatt-Taylor led Penn Highlands with 25 points. Jamar Wilson and Craig Riddle added 11 and 10, respectively, for the Black Bears.
The Lakers have their first home game of 2024 next Wednesday when they host CCBC-Catonsville at 7 p.m. GC hosts Chesapeake College on Saturday, January 20th at 3 p.m.
GC's women's basketball team hosts CCBC-Catonsville in a 5 p.m. game next Wednesday before hosting Chesapeake College on Saturday, January 20th at 1 p.m.
