GC certification rates 13% higher than U.S. average
College's allied health program students have impressive 93% pass rate
Garrett College allied health students have a pass rate 13 percent higher than the U.S. average on national certification exams.
That data, gathered over the past eight years, compares Garrett College pass rates with the national average on certification exams given through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Garrett College students who complete coursework in Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) sit for national certification exams.
Since 2015, 93 percent of the GC students who have sat for the national exam have earned their certification. Nationally, about 80 percent of students sitting for those exams have successfully earned their certification.
"We're very proud of how successful our students have been in earning their certification," said Doug Beitzel, GC's program coordinator. "Our instructors do a great job in making sure the students understand the material and are ready to be employed when they complete our courses."
Beitzel said the market for students with these skills is growing dramatically.
"This workforce field is projected to grow 16 percent from 2021 to 2031," said Beitzel, who noted Garrett College has scholarship funding available for students interested in these careers paths. Registration for the fall 2023 program is open with limited space until August 17th.
Classes are slated to run Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9:15 p.m. at the Garrett College Career Technology Training Center in Accident. Interested persons should contact Beitzel (301.387.3772 or doug.beitzel@garrettcollege.edu).
