Events to take place at GC and both county high schools

The Garrett College Office of Financial Aid has scheduled seven events to assist students and parents in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Three of the FAFSA prep meetings are scheduled in the theatre of the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College (September 26th, October 17th, and November 16th). Two will take place at Northern Garrett High (October 10th and November 2nd), and two will take place at Southern Garrett High (October 12th and November 29th).

All FAFSA prep meetings will start at 5 p.m.

Andrew Harvey, Garrett College's director of financial aid, said significant changes have been made to the FAFSA process.

"The FAFSA has been redesigned for the first time in 40 years," said Harvey. "Even parents who have participated in FAFSA information events in the past should attend one of these information meetings so they understand the changes in the process.

"If you think you know how to complete a FAFSA – think again," added Harvey, emphasizing the sweeping changes to the process.

The changes to the FAFSA form are tied to the FAFSA Simplification Act, which represents a significant overhaul of the processes and systems used to award federal student aid. The changes are effective starting with the 2024-25 award year.
