Garrett College leads state in transfer performance

For 2020-21 cohort, 96% of GC grads had 2.0 GPA or higher

Garrett College's 2020-21 graduates led the state in achieving 2.0 or higher grade-point averages at their transfer institutions, according to Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) data.

Ninety-six percent of GC's 2020-21 graduates attending four-year in-state institutions earned a 2.0 ("C" or better) at their transfer institution. The College of Southern Maryland finished second at 92.8 percent.

"One of our major goals is to prepare transfer students to be successful at their four-year institutions," said Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College's president. "This latest MHEC data provides additional evidence that we are achieving that goal."

Cecil College (91.1 percent), Hagerstown Community College (90.4 percent), and Harford Community College (90.2 percent) were the only other Maryland community colleges to finish with at least 90 percent of their transfer students having a 2.0 or higher GPA.

Earlier this year, MHEC released data showing Garrett College led all Maryland community colleges in the graduation/transfer rate for college-ready students.

"Garrett has regularly led the state in a variety of graduation/transfer and student success indicators," said Dr. Ryan Harrod, GC's dean of academic affairs. "This is really a testament to our faculty, our support services and our students. Everyone at Garrett College is committed to ensuring our students' success."
